THE DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION ACT 1995.

Makes it unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of disability when providing services, facilities, goods or employment. It is aimed at ending the discrimination that many people face whilst going about their every day lives. For someone who is hearing impaired, this means the ability to communicate effectively in any type of environment. This effects all of us in one way or another, as we all need to take into account how we can best offer our services to those who have a Hearing Impairment.

The act gives

• Disabled People New Rights that are backed up by legislation.
• Service Providers an obligation and legal duty to offer equal access to facilities
• A moral duty to address these obligations.
• A deadline of 1st. October 2004 for compliance.
